Bluewater Adventure
Travelers who enjoy the blue water around Hilton Head Island should check out Bluewater Adventure. This company is locally owned and operated, and you can find them at the Shelter Cove Marina. If you’re unfamiliar with the island, this Marina is located right in the middle of the island, which is advantageous for a Hilton Head jet ski rental because it’s protected from the Atlantic Ocean.
With Bluewater, you can rent your jet ski for 1.5 hours or for two hours. South Carolina does not require a boater’s license to operate a jet ski, and you do not need more than a driver’s license to rent with Bluewater Adventure. However, you must be at least 18 to drive the jet ski. Bluewater Adventure allows one youth (ages 12 to 17) for each adult-driven jet ski.
To take advantage of this opportunity, you will generally need a reservation well in advance. Additionally, if the weather is bad, then you’ll have to call the company to cancel your reservation. Make sure to show up 45 minutes ahead of your reservation time for paperwork and orientation. They will provide your life vest (and rain gear if appropriate). The company recommends that you wear quality boat shoes and take a towel so you can dry off any splashing. A bottle or two of water is not a bad idea, either.
Sea Monkeys Water Sports
Hilton Head jet ski rentals are more family-friendly with Sea Monkeys Water Sports. That’s because their jet skis can accommodate up to three passengers weighing 400 pounds total. With that said, you can’t just send the kids out to have fun on their own. You must be 16 or older to drive a jet ski, and you’ll need a valid driver’s license. Additionally, if a 16 or 17-year-old is driving the jet ski, any passengers must be 18 or older. This is designed to be among the safer ways to enjoy a day out while staying in your Hilton Head condo rental because you must go with the guide. Finally, you must have a reservation and arrive at least half an hour early.
Besides the higher boat capacity, a great reason to use Sea Monkeys is the local guide. That’s because, in addition to keeping you safe, the guide will show you fun local attractions and wildlife, such as dolphins. And because each Jet ski tour is only one hour and 15 minutes, you can have a little fun without being completely worn out. Then, when you’re done, you can head back to one of your Hilton Head condo to prepare for your next adventure.
H2O Sports
At H2O Sports, you can enjoy a large riding area and not worry about no-wake zones. That means you’re free to have lots of fun driving fast or enjoying a more leisurely ride along the shoreline. Each jet ski can accommodate two people, so you don’t need to roam alone.
The rules at H2O Sports are relatively permissive. The driver must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license for South Carolina law. You can have one passenger who must be at least six years old. So, while you can’t put small children on a jet ski, school-aged passengers are fine.
Although the company does not have a firm arrival time expectation, you will need to complete your paperwork and a safety briefing before you can take your jet ski out onto the water. Also, you will need to have a reservation — though you may be able to make a reservation the day before, depending on availability. You can even get a GoPro camera package, which lets you record vacation memories.
