Day Trips - Daufuskie Island, SC
Daufuskie Island is a gorgeous gem of the South Carolina coast and was the famous subject of Pat Conroy's novel, "The Water Is Wide." The epitome of Lowcountry living, Daufuskie will transport you to another world where nobody drives cars and all is quiet and nurturing. Residents travel this exquisite, natural island on foot or by bike or golf cart.
Although isolated, Daufuskie boasts enough art, culture, golf and resort activities to keep you going all day. Enjoy 18 holes at Melrose Golf Course or Bloody Point. While away the afternoon enjoying a decadent massage at Breathe Spa. If the beach is your true calling, spend the afternoon dozing by the water and watching the magnificent sailboats.
Daufuskie Island is only accessible by boat from Hilton Head, South Carolina or Tybee Island, Georgia. There are hourly ferries from Palmetto Bay Marina on Hilton Head that start in the early morning and go until late evening. The boats will drop off riders at Haig Point, Daufuskie's main port.
